The Bauchi state government, alongside the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has called for the resumption of oil exploration activities at the Kolmani oil field.
The oil field, located between Bauchi and Gombe states, was flagged off by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2022.
However, exploration activities at the basin encountered operational halts after the operating technical company demobilised from the area.
During a trip to the oil field on Monday, Mohammed Shehu, RMAFC chair, expressed concerns about the delay in exploration.
“Our whole aim is that Nigeria should rededicate its efforts to make sure that assets like this are fully exploited and turned into revenue, not only for the federation but also for the people of Bauchi and Gombe states, the north-east region and, especially, the host communities,” Shehu said.
“We believe that Mr President is a listening President. He had assured the two governors that he would resume exploration and make sure that this investment is well exploited so that it can generate revenue.”
The delegation also inspected the ongoing construction of the permanent site of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in the Alkaleri LGA, an institution designed to build specialised technical capacity for the region’s emerging petroleum sector.
Amina Gamawa, RMAFC federal commissioner representing Bauchi, said the federal government’s funding of the training institute linked to the project demonstrated Tinubu’s interest in ensuring that the project takes off and creates opportunities for the people.
