The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Retail Limited has commissioned a smart, 24-hour self-service fuelling station in Abuja, equipped with solar power, electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities and digital fuel dispensing technology.
The station, located along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, between the Flight Training School and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters, was commissioned on Thursday with live demonstrations of its automated facilities.
The facility has a 180,000-litre Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) storage capacity and a 45,000-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) capacity, with 16 pumps for PMS and two for AGO. It also offers liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dispensing, an automated car wash and vehicle servicing.
According to Shettima Baba-Kukawa, executive director, retail operations, NNPC Retail Ltd., the station was designed as an energy and mobility hub rather than a conventional filling station.
He said NNPC Retail partnered with African Motor Works to deploy six EV charging points, while the station is powered by a solar energy system with a capacity of more than 200 kilowatts.
The station also allows customers to dispense fuel themselves through the NNPC Retail mobile application, enabling them to purchase and dispense the exact quantity paid for.
Baba-Kukawa said plans were underway to introduce compressed natural gas (CNG) facilities at the station.
At the commissioning, Mumuni Dagazau, NNPC Ltd.’s executive vice president, downstream, said the project reflected the company’s commitment to technology, innovation and evolving energy needs.
“We are embracing the future of energy retail, a future that is smarter, more convenient, technology-driven and customer-focused,” he said.
Dagazau thanked the NIS, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), contractors and technology partners for their contributions to the project.
